Getting your business ready for AI-driven search

Search behavior is shifting from “type a query, scan ten blue links” to “ask a question, get an answer.” That shift changes what a business needs to have in order, and most haven’t started.

A few practical starting points: make sure business information (hours, location, services, pricing where relevant) is accurate and says the same thing everywhere it appears — AI systems weigh consistency heavily, and conflicting information across listings undermines confidence in all of them. Write about what the business actually does in plain, specific language, rather than marketing phrases that sound good to a person but give an AI system nothing concrete to extract. And keep that information current — a business’s biggest AI-visibility risk is often just staleness, not absence.

None of this requires a redesign or a big technical project. It’s closer to good recordkeeping than software engineering. But it compounds: a business that’s easy for an AI system to understand today is positioned to be recommended by it tomorrow, while slower-moving competitors are still being evaluated by a search algorithm that’s mattering less every year.
